Car Option Codes Explained: PR, SA, RPO & Data Cards
Factories label every option with a short code. Here's what the main systems are — and how to read yours.
Car factories don't write “heated seats” on the assembly line — they use short codes. Decode them and you have your car's exact factory equipment list. Here's how the main code systems work.
How a code becomes a feature
PR 4A3Heated front seats
PR 9VSPremium sound system
PR 3FUPanoramic sunroof
PR QQ1LED matrix headlights
Each factory code maps to one real feature on the car.
The main code systems
- PR codes (VW Group): Audi, VW, Škoda, SEAT and CUPRA use 3-character “PR” codes.
- SA codes (BMW & MINI): “Sonderausstattung” option numbers such as SA 459.
- RPO codes (GM): three-character Regular Production Option codes on Opel/Vauxhall and GM cars.
- Data cards (Mercedes-Benz): a numeric option list tied to the VIN.
